OKTIBBEHA COUNTY


Exhibit Days
The 2010 Oktibbeha County Exhibit Days is just around the corner. Booklets are ready to be picked up next week. We will check exhibits in on Monday, September 13, 2010 from 3-6 p.m. at Bost Building B on MSU Campus. Check out will be on September 14 from 3-5 p.m. Everyone must complete a registration form with all entries listed. Complete your forms and bring to the Extension office by 9/3/10. We also have your tags available, you will be able to pick up when you turn in registration form.

**New rule everyone is limited to maximum of 30 exhibits. If you have any questions call us at 323-5918.


2010 4-H Shooting Sports North Volunteer Training
Bayou Academy in Cleveland, MS will be the meeting sites for the next 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer Leader Training Workshop to be held August 28-29. Discipline training will take place inside the Bayou Academy School with all outdoor activities being held at a local range. Participants must be at least 21 years of age in order to become a certified volunteer. Individual disciplines will only be offered if at least 5 participants are registered by the final deadline. Any discipline with insufficient registration will not be offered in the final program. Each county may bring one or more agents or volunteers in each of the six disciplines that will be offered; however, at this training session each person can complete certification in only one of the following disciplines*: Pistol, Rifle, Muzzleloader, Archery, Shotgun, and Coordinator.

REGISTRATION WILL BE FROM JULY 26TH TO AUGUST 12TH
Also include an alternate discipline in the advent that the primary does not make. Participants that sign up for a discipline that does not make will be notified that they have been moved to their alternate discipline



LIVESTOCK NEWS
NEW VOLUNTEER LEADERS WHO MAY BE HELPING YOUR 4-H’ERS GROOM ANIMALS MUST BE OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED VOLUNTEER LEADERS OF THE 4-H PROGRAM IN MISSISSIPPI. Volunteer leaders who will be assisting 4-H’ers with animals at the show and all parents that assist with animals should be signed up as volunteers and be ethics certified.

OFFICIAL HEALTH CERTIFICATE – REMINDER
An Official Health Certificate with each animal identified will be required on all livestock showing at the 2010 Mississippi State Fair. This includes all market animals, beef breeding cattle, commercial beef heifers, dairy cattle (purebred and commercial dairy heifers), dairy goats and commercial meat goat does.

MARKET LAMB EXHIBITORS – SPECIAL NOTICE! Remember the minimum weight of market lambs is 70 pounds with no maximum weight for the Mississippi State Fair. ALL exhibitors are responsible for weighing their lambs and declaring their animal’s show weight on a weight card. Official scales will be made available for weighing livestock.


COMMERCIAL DAIRY HEIFER EXHIBITORS – SPECIAL NOTICE!
Remember the minimum weight of commercial dairy heifers is 200 pounds for the Mississippi State Fair.


NO GROOMING CONTEST AT DIXIE NATIONAL JUNIOR ROUND-UP – SPECIAL NOTICE!
Since the Mississippi Livestock Directors did not take any action on reinstituting the grooming contest, there will not be one held at the 2011 Dixie National Junior Round-Up. Their minutes stated that items that they did not discuss would remain the same for the upcoming year.



Expressive Arts Workshop:
There will be an Expressive Arts Workshop held Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 2-5 p.m. Deadline to register is September 3, 2010.
