Oktibbeha County 4-H

Field and Stream Registration
All Field and Stream Shooting Sports information MUST be turned in by April 1st this includes the following: Registration form, registration fee, Health Card and Code of Conduct Forms to the Extension Office. These are due in our office by April 1, 2011. This year’s contest will be held in Tupelo.

District Field and Stream Contest
The district field and stream contest will be held April 30, 2011 at Whitetail Ridge Range in Tupelo.

Make-UP Contest Day
I have scheduled a makeup day for all contests for April 5, 2011 from 1-5 p.m. at the Extension Office.

Club Congress
The 2011 State 4-H Club Congress is just around the corner. This is for Senior 4-H members. The dates of the congress are June 1-3, 2011 at MSU Campus. Cost has not been announced yet. We are assuming that it will be like last year fees which was Full time (including dorms) $95 and Part time (no dorms ($60). The county will again pay for a part fees depending on the number of youth wishing to participate. You will be responsible for the remaining part. In order to go you must have competed in the County Visual Presentation, Public Speaking, and/or County Judging Contest. Deadline to return congress registration form is April 11, 2011. Poster Art Contest
The themes for the 2011 Poster Art Contest: 4-H – iLead, iServe, i4-H and an Open Theme…this category allows 4-H’ers to create a poster and use their own theme. The size of the poster must be 14” X 22” (half sheet of poster board). Posters are due in the County Extension Office later on this summer. More rules are available at the County Extension Office on this contest.

Dairy Poster
This year's June Dairy Month Theme is "Pour One More". More information is available at the extension office or by going to the following link: http://msucares.com/pubs/publications/p0799.pdf

Horse Deadlines:
If you plan on showing horses in 4H this year here are some important deadlines:
• You must Own horse by May 1, 2011
• You must have completed enrollment for 4H by April 29, 2011.
• Entry forms (state and district) are due May 1st.
• Rule books and entry forms are available about April 2011.
• All new riders must have ethics training. Call our office to schedule this.
• ONLY NEW EXHIBITORS this year will have to complete ethics. Call our office to schedule this.
• County Horse show will be held May 14th at MS Horsepark.

Expressive Arts Program
The annual Expressive Arts Program will be held on May 16-17, 2011 at the County 4-H Office. This is open to youth of all ages. Forms are available at the County Extension Office. Completed forms should be turned in on the first day of the program. Check-in is from 3-6 on May 16th. Check-out is from 4-5 on May 17th.


CONGRATULATIONS CORNER
State Land Judging - Congratulations to the following youth who participated in the State land Judging Contest that was held March 18th: DeShun Brown, Jeremy Brown, Joshua Poe, Justin Jones (2nd place senior team); JR love, Jasline Love, Robert Roberson (5th place team –seniors) and Robuel Roberson (Junior). Special thanks to parents who assisted with this contest. BIG thanks to coach Tony Thompson.

County Contest Results
Thank you to everyone who attended the county contests that was held March 16, 2011. We had a great turn out.
