 Exhibit Days

The 2012 Oktibbeha County Exhibit Days is just around the corner. Booklets are ready to pick up. We will again have Exhibit Days at our office. We are limiting exhibits to 25 per person. You again must pre-register. NO EXHIBITS ACCEPTED after deadline. Schedule will be as following:
  • Monday, September 17, 2011 Check in - 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. 
  • Tuesday, September 18, 2012 – Judging and Viewing 
  • Wednesday, September 19, 2012 – Check out – 2-5 p.m.
 District Horse Meeting
The Northeast District Horse Show meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 6:30 P.M. at the Northeast District Office in Verona. Any volunteer can attend this meeting but only one (1) delegate from each county is allowed to vote. Contact Julie if you plan on attending.

2012 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer Training
4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer Leader Training Workshop will be held November 9-10, 2012. Workshop will be held at NE Extension Research Center in Verona and Whitetail Ridge in Blue Springs, MS.  Participants must be at least 21 years of age in order to become a certified volunteer. More information will come later.
  
STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE
AWARDS
Awards application will be ready to pick up September 4, 2012.  DEADLINE to return Standard of Excellence, Spirit of 4-H, Rookie of the Year Awards, Outstanding Volunteer, and Outstanding Club applications is OCTOBER 1, 2012. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER this date. If you need an application call Joyce.

2012 AWARDS PROGRAM
The 2012 Awards Program will be held Tuesday, November 15, 2011 beginning at 6 p.m. We are currenting looking for a new location.   Mark this on your calendar. Hope you can attend this event.

LIVESTOCK NEWS
Beef, Dairy Cattle, Sheep, Swine, and Goats…want to show? The ownership deadline for the 4-H Livestock Project is September 1, 2012. All nomination forms are due to the Extension Office by August 31, 2012. Market and Commercial Animal must be tagged prior to this date. Please call Julie White at 323-5916 to schedule an appointment. Also  NEW exhibitors and youth who are now over 14 will need to schedule to have ethics training before State Fair in October. Julie will hold ethics training for other in November.

Also if you are 8-13 or 14-18 and are interested in Judging Dairy Cattle please contact Ms. Julie. Practices will start soon for contests in January and February.

  
4-H DAY AT MSU FOOTBALL GAME
4-H Day at MSU Football game is Saturday, October 20, 2012. This is the Middle Tennessee State Game (also Homecoming). Time TBA. 4-H will NOT be offering meal this year. They will be provided a place to tailgate. They will have pre game activities for all ages. Packages are as follows:
  • $15 – includes game ticket use of tailgate facilities
  • $5 – for shirt only (same on as last year)
If you would not to purchase tickets please contact our office. Forms and payment are due in our office NO LATER THAN October 1, 2012.

4-H BANNER CLUB
It is time to submit your 4-H Club Secretary’s Record Book. The Mississippi 4-H Banner Club Award Program recognizes outstanding 4-H community and project clubs in the following categories:
Legislative Awards
Governor’s Club Award - $500.00
Lt. Governor’s Award - $400.00
Congressional District Awards - $200.00

Special Awards
First Lady Fitness Award - $500.00
Commissioner of AG Award - $300.00
AT&T Technology Award - $300.00
4-H Club Award of Excellence – Blue Ribbon

We would love to have a record book from all clubs. If you need help please contact our office.  Record books are due in the 4-H office by Monday, September 24, 2012.

TOY DRIVE
We will be collecting toys (slightly used) for Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. They need books, trucks, balls, dolls, any toy for youth of all ages.
EXTENSION UPDATE
We will be trying a new format of newsletter next month. It will include several areas of Extension Programing. If you would like to put something in this letter let Julie know.

 CONGRATULATIONS CORNER

Congratulations to all youth who participated in the summer activities from Club Congress, Project Achievement Day, NASA Camps, Kid in Kitchen, and District and State Horse Shows.


 Congratulations to the Oktibbeha County 4-H Horse Judging Team. They placed 11th at the Southern Regional Contest. We are very proud of you girls!!

Poster Art Contest
The themes for the 2012 Poster Art Contest 4-H: The Green Revolution and an Open Theme…this category allows 4-H’ers to create a poster and use their own theme.  The size of the poster must be 14” X 22” (half sheet of poster board).  More rules are available at the County Extension Office on this contest. These are due in our office on May 14, 2012.

Tractor Supply and 4-H
The Spring Tractor Supply Paper Clover fundraiser will be held May 2-May 13. Customers at our local Tractor Supply can support 4-H by purchasing a paper clover for $1 at checkout. All funds raised will be donated to 4-H here in Starkville. Local clubs and 4-H members can also reap rewards from Tractor Supply with the new TSC Clover Card. By registering for a card, you'll get special notifications from TSC and 4-H and access to special deals at TSC only available to TSC Clover Card holders. Best of all, each time you use your card, your club has a chance to win additional funding from TSC.  Horse News
Don’t forget the County Horse show will be held May 12th at MS Horsepark.

Expressive Arts Program
The annual Expressive Arts Program will be held on May 14-15, 2012 at the County 4-H Office. This is open to youth of all ages. Forms are available at the County Extension Office. Completed forms should be turned in on the first day of the program. Check-in is from 3-6 on May 14th. Check-out is from 4-5 on May 15th.

Junior Robotics Camp
A Junior Robotics Camp for 4-H youth ages 8-13 years old will be held on MSU Campus July 8th-11th. All 8 and 9 year-olds must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.  The total cost of this 3-day camp is $250.00, which includes housing, meals, t-shirt, field trips, snacks, etc. (youth should not need extra spending money).  Parents who wish to attend with their child will need to pay for their housing and meals ($125, this includes the restaurant meal, movie night, and field trips). We have 25 slots available.
  • Tuesday - June 5th -   Junior Robotics Camp registration deadline
  • Tuesday - June 19th - All money for Junior Robotics Camp payment due (must be postmarked by this date)
  • July 8-11th - Junior Robotics Camp!
Project Achievement Day
Project Achievement Day is Wednesday, June 6, 2012 on the campus of ICC in Fulton, MS. If you are attending Project achievement Day you will need to register and complete forms (health card and parental release forms) no later than May 15, 2012.  You must have competed in the county contest or make up to attend this.
Cloverleaf Exhibits – NEW CHANGE
Remember: Three-sided science fair project-type boards will NOT be allowed in the Mississippi 4-H Cloverleaf exhibit at the District 4-H Project Achievement Days. 4-H Cloverleaf exhibits should include :
  • a title sign displayed on top of or attached
to the front of the table
  • materials related to the project
  • table for displaying everything
  • NO live animals
  • must not occupy an area larger than 3ft x 3 ft.
  • 4-H members are responsible for furnishing all materials and table
  • NO Electrical outlets exhibits
 Senior/Volunteer Records
The deadline for Senior and Volunteer Records to be turned in to the County 4-H office is June 20, 2012.  If you need forms, they are available at the county office.
Junior/Intermediate/Club Records
The deadline for Volunteer/Junior/Intermediate/
Club Records to be turned in to the County 4-H office is July 12, 2012.  This will give us time to review them and make any needed changes. Remember story and pictures MUST be changed and be current. If you need forms, they are available at the county office.

Photography Workshop
There will be a photography workshop on July 10, 2012 from 9-12 at our office. Limited to 15 people. More information will come in next month’s letter.

CONGRATULATIONS CORNER
NE District 4-H Field and Stream Contest was held on April 28, 2012. Oktibbeha County youth participating were: Mamie/Elijah/Bridget Carlstrom, Matthew Carver, Adam Easley, Melvin Ellis, Cali/Cole Freely, Andrew Harrell, Kylie Headley, Ethan Hester, Howell Jenkins, Caleb Jordan, Hayden Moore, Reed Pearson, Joanna/Jorja/Joseph/Josiah Phillips, Robert/Robuel Roberson, Zachery Sale, Joseph/Jacob Stoll, Millie/Levi/Maggie/Amble/Abby Thompson, John Tranum, and Dillan Welk.

Congrats to all youth. Special Thanks to our volunteers and parents who assisted in making this year a success.
