2011 AWARDS PROGRAM
The 2011 Awards Program will be held Tuesday, November 15, 2011 beginning at
6 p.m. at Bost Building B on MSU Campus.  Mark this on your calendar. Hope you can attend this event.

CHRISTMAS PARADE
We will be walking in the Christmas Parade. The parade is Monday November 28, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. If you are interested in this please contact Angela Stewart or myself. We need to be lined up at 5:00.  Wear something 4-H if you have it.  We would love to have a large group walking for 4-H.

HOLIDAY IDEAS WORKSHOP
There will be a Holiday Ideas Workshop held Tuesday December 13, 2011 from 2-5 p.m. We will make three or four holiday gift ideas for you to take home. Call to reserve your space today. Limited to 25 people. Call and sign up today.  Deadline to register is December 1st.

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY EXTENSION OPEN HOUSE
Oktibbeha County Extension Service is planning an Open House for Monday, December 12, 2011 beginning at 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.  .  Please come share the day with us.  This is FREE to the public.  If you have any questions, call LaTrell or Julie at 323 5918.

 

SALVATION ARMY VOLUNTEERING

 We will again this year ring the bell for Salvation Army. Saturday, December 10th from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Wal-Mart in Starkville. Club leaders need to call the office to sign up.
CYW Club has selected 12-1.

FOOD DRIVE
Oktibbeha County Extension Office is a site that nonperishable food items can be dropped off for local food pantries. This is a great community service project.

Reminders

Exhibits days will be held on September 19-21. Remember NEW location - Our office. Exhibits must be entered on Monday, September 19, between the hours of 3-5 p.m.  They must pick up exhibits on September 21, 2011 between the hours of 1-5 p.m. (you must have already pre-registered for this).

Standard of excellence forms are now available for pick up. Deadline to return them is Oct 4.

EXHIBIT DAYS
The 2011 Oktibbeha County Exhibit Days is just around the corner. Booklets are ready to pick up. We will check exhibits in on Monday, September 19, 2011 at our office.  NEW LOCATION – Oktibbeha County Extension Office. You should pre-register and pick up your tags by September 12, 2011.

BULDOG INVITATIONAL
Come support our livestock exhibitors on Saturday September, 17, 2011 at the MS Horsepark. Showing will start at 9 a.m. We will have Beef, Sheep, Dairy Goats and Dairy showing. There will be two special classes (per species) showing: Pre 4-H and Non Owner. Come join the fun.

JUNIOR COUNCIL
Oktibbeha County 4-H Junior Council will meet on Thursday, September 29, 2011 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The main focus of the meeting will be to plan and discuss the 2011 Awards Program.  We will make committee assignments for (decorations, food & program) and select Standard of Excellence prizes/awards for this year Awards Program.  Other topics of discussion will be Salvation Army Volunteering and Adopt-a-Family.
REMINDER: Junior Council is open to ALL 4-H'ers and volunteers.  Come help plan upcoming activities.

4-H ADVISORY COUNCIL
Oktibbeha County 4-H Advisory Council will meet on Thursday, September 29, 2011 beginning at Noon. A light lunch will be served.

STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE AWARDS
DEADLINE to return Standard of Excellence, Spirit of 4-H, Rookie of the Year Awards, Outstanding Volunteer, and Outstanding Club applications is OCTOBER 3, 2011. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER this date. If you need an application call Joyce.

MS STATE FAIR 4-H DAY
When ordering tickets, remember that you must secure enough tickets for everyone attending 4-H Day October 15, 2011. (Example: If there are five people in one car, there must be five tickets submitted to enter the gate). The tickets can be used at any Gate and can only be used from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm on 4-H Day (October 15, 2011). Please only order enough tickets for your 4-H’ers and volunteers that will be attending! Deadline to reserve your tickets is October 3, 2011.

4-H BANNER CLUB
It is time to submit your 4-H Club Secretary’s Record Book. The Mississippi 4-H Banner Club Award Program will recognize outstanding 4-H community and project clubs in the following categories:

Legislative Awards
Governor’s Club Award - $500.00
Lt. Governor’s Award - $400.00
Congressional District Awards - $200.00

Special Awards
First Lady Fitness Award - $500.00
Commissioner of AG Award - $300.00
AT&T Technology Award - $300.00
4-H Club Award of Excellence – Blue Ribbon Record books are due in the 4-H office by Monday, October 10, 2011.

4-H DAY AT MSU FOOTBALL GAME
Mississippi 4-H is again proud to sponsor 4-H Day at MSU Football for the Homecoming Game vs. University of Tennessee @ Martin.  The game is set for Saturday, November 5, 2011 (game time will be announced at a later date). The 4-H Tailgate Party will be located across the street from the Cullis Wade Depot on West Stone Blvd. near the Cellular South Fan Fair. This year’s event has one option.   --Option 1: $25.00 (includes t-shirt, game-day ticket, and tailgate party). The deadline for ticket sales is Wednesday, October 13th by 5:00 p.m. You can print form (that was sent by email or come by and get one) and mail them straight to the State 4-H Office.

Oktibbeha County 4-H

 Exhibit Days

The 2011 Oktibbeha County Exhibit Days is just around the corner. Booklets are ready to pick up. We will check exhibits in on Monday, September 19, 2011 at our office. NEW LOCATION – Oktibbeha County Extension Office.

District Horse Meeting
The Northeast District Horse Show meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 6:30 P.M. at the Northeast District Office in Verona. Any volunteer can attend this meeting but only one (1) delegate from each county is allowed to vote.

Expressive Arts and Science Fun Workshop
We will have an expressive arts and science fun workshop on September 6, 2011 from 2-5 p.m. at the County Extension Office.  Workshop is open to ages 5-18. No cost! Limited to 25 people.

2011 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer Training
Holmes Community College in Grenada, MS will be the meeting site for the next

4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer Leader Training Workshop to be held August 27-28.  Discipline training will take place inside the Holmes Community College Campus with all outdoor activities being held at a local range.  We are encouraged to send one or more volunteers to this training workshop.


Participants must be at least 21 years of age in order to become a certified volunteer. Each county may bring one or more agents or volunteers in each of the six disciplines that will be offered; however, at this training session each person can complete certification in only one of the following disciplines*: Pistol, Rifle, Muzzleloader, Archery, Shotgun, and Coordinator.

The registration cost is $75.00 per person. This will cover the cost of Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, and breakfast Sunday morning with snacks at break times on both days. This fee also covers workshop materials, training equipment, and ammunition.  REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS AUGUST 17TH.

Please email your name, address, date of birth and preferred discipline to latrells@ext.msstate.edu.  Also include an alternate discipline in the advent that the primary does not make. Participants that sign up for a discipline that does not make will be notified that they have been moved to their alternate discipline. County will pay at least half of registration fee or more depending on how many volunteers are planning on attending. THIS IS THE ONLY TRAINING THEY WILL BE OFFERING!!!!

LIVESTOCK NEWS
If you plan on showing livestock in 4-H this year, remember the ownership deadline is September 1, 2011. ETHICS - The Mississippi State Fair will be here soon and ethics training for NEW exhibitors, parents or guardians, and volunteers must be completed by September 1, 2011. ALSO if you were a junior 4-H’er last year and now are a senior (14 and older – 4H age) you will need to be re-certified. Call our office to schedule this.

The date for the Bulldog Invitational Livestock Show at the MS Horse Park is September 17, 2011

4-H DAY AT MSU FOOTBALL GAME

Mark your calendar for November 5, 2011 for 4-H Day at the MSU Football game. The 4-H ticket package will include a football game ticket, t-shirt and tailgate! This is the Homecoming game for MSU when we will play UT-Martin.

NE District Horse Show winners

Millie Thompson, Oktibbeha County 4-H’er recently received first place honors in Pony Hunter Under Saddle (Bridal Path Hack) (52 in and under) Jr 8-13 year old at the Northeast District 4-H Horse Show held June 15-18, 2011 in Starkville. She also received two Overall High Point Awards at the conclusion of the show which were: High Point Pony and High Point Junior Horse.  She is the daughter of Johnny and Inger Thompson of Starkville


Myra Thompson, Oktibbeha County 4-H’er recently received first place honors in Western Pony Walk/Jog Jr 8-13 year old at the Northeast District 4-H Horse Show held June 15-18, 2011 in Starkville. She is the daughter of Johnny and Inger Thompson of Starkville.  




Logan Alpe, Oktibbeha County 4-H’er recently received first place honors in Registered  Quarter Horse yearling, 2 year old and 3 year old gelds at the Northeast District 4-H Horse Show held June 15-18 held in Starkville. She is the daughter of Mike and Mitzi Alpe of Starkville. 



 Levi Thompson, Oktibbeha County 4-H’er recently received first place honors in Goat tying, Jr 8-13 year old at the Northeast District 4-H Horse Show held June 15-18, 2011 in Starkville. He is the son of Johnny and Inger Thompson of Starkville.

 

Colby Freely, Oktibbeha County 4-H’er recently received first place honors in Western Pleasure, Jr 8-11 year old and Showmanship, Jr 8-11 year old at the Northeast District 4-H Horse Show held June 15-18 held in Starkville. She is the daughter of Michael and Joanna Freely of Starkville.


Rachel Moore, Oktibbeha County 4-H’er recently received several first place honors at the Northeast District 4-H Horse Show held June 15-18, 2011 in Starkville. The honors included:
Reining – Sr 14-18 year olds, Showmanship, Sr. 16-18 year olds, Hunter Under Saddle (Bridal Path hack) Sr 16-18, Stake Race, (over 52 in) Sr 16-18.  She also received the following High Point Overall Awards at the Northeast District 4-H Horse Show held June15-18, 2011 in Starkville:         Senior High Point, Senior High Point Horse,  High Point Western,  2nd HP Hunter. Rachel is the daughter of Rob and Joanie Moore of Starkville.
  

Amble Thompson, Oktibbeha County 4-H’er recently received first place honors in Pony Mares (48 in and under) Jrs 8-13 year olds at the Northeast District 4-H Horse Show held June 15-18, 2011 in Starkville. She also was awarded  2nd Overall High Point JR Horse. She is the daughter of Inger and Johnny Thompson of Starkville. 




Taylor Dunn, Oktibbeha County 4-H’er recently received the following 1st place honors at  the Northeast District 4-H Horse Show held June15-18, 2011 in Starkville: Registered Other Breeds geldings (no Ponies), Hunter Under Saddle (Bridle Path Hack) Sr 14-15 year olds. Taylor is the daughter of Todd and Melissa Dunn of Sturgis.
