June Newsletter

Oktibbeha County 4-H

     May 26, 2011

Club Congress
Club Congress starts Wednesday, June 1, 2011 on MSU campus. If you are attending here are some reminders:
·         Bring contest material (PowerPoint, posters, visual aids, etc.)
·         Power points must be a flash drive NOT CD
·         Make sure you read with parent the dress code
·         Meet me at 10 a.m. to get ID, cards, schedule, meal cards, t-shirts etc.
·         Dress in Sunday best
·         Lunch will be bought for each contestant
·         Parents must pay for their lunch. It is $5 each
·         Practice your presentation
·         Remember we set as a county at all assemblies
·         Have fun!

Community Service Project at Congress
House of Hope Mississippi was selected by the Congress Planning Committee as the 2011 Congress Service Learning Project.    Each County is being asked to collect funds locally and bring a check payable to Mississippi 4-H. All funds collected will be combined and given in one check to the House of Hope Mississippi.  If you would like more information on House of Hope Mississippi, you may visit their website at     houseofhopems@yahoo.com

Senior/Volunteer Records

The deadline for Senior and Volunteer Records to be turned in to the County 4-H office is June 20, 2011.  If you need forms, they are available at the county office. District Horse Misc. Contests District Horse Public Speaking, Hippology and Team Demonstration Contest will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at MS Hose Park. Horse Judging will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at MS Horse Park.

State Horse Misc. Contests
The State Horse Hippology Contest will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in Jackson.

The individual demonstration, Public Speaking and Team Demonstration Contest will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in Jackson at the Equine Center.  You do not have to own horses to participate in this contest If you wish to participate in one or both of these contests please contact our office and sign up.  More information on these contests can be obtained from our office. Deadline is June 6th!


Horse Show Information
The 4-H Horse Shows will be here before you know it. Here are some final reminders:
·         Bring coggins
·         Bring original registration or grade papers
·         If you would like a stall let me know ASAP. They are $15 for the weekend.
·         talls will come with one bag of shaving but you will be able to buy more if needed.
·         NO parking on gray rock anywhere at the horse park.
·         NO dogs INSIDE building
·         Dogs outside MUST be on a leash 
·         Remember the PA system is JUST a courtesy. Make sure you are early for your classes. Some classes are very small. We don’t want you to miss your class.
·         Positive attitudes and good sportsmanship

Project Achievement Day
Project Achievement Day is Wednesday, June 8, 2011 on the campus of ICC in Fulton, MS. If you are attending Project Achievement Day, here are some reminders:
·         Bring contest material (PowerPoint, posters, visual aids, etc.)
·         PowerPoint’s must be a flash drive NOT CD
·         Health cards
·         Parental release
·         Get contest cards from me that morning
·         Dress in Sunday best
·         Lunch will be bought for each contestant
·         Parents must pay for their lunch. It is $5 each
·         Practice your presentation
·         Have fun!
  
Junior/Intermediate/Club Records
The deadline for Volunteer/Junior/Intermediate/
Club Records to be turned in to the County 4-H office is July 12, 2011.  This will give us time to review them and make any needed changes. Remember story and pictures MUST be changed and be current. If you need forms, they are available at the county office.

4-H Advisory Council
The next 4-H Advisory Council will be held on July 14, 2011.

Bulldog Invitational Horse Show-

Thanks for all the volunteers who assisted in making this show a success.
Field and Stream Event
